1.STAR OF BETHLEHEM

1900' from Lancaster, Pennsylvania 214cm x 212 cm

Many early settlers had a passionate commitment to Christian faith and named various quilt patterns from Bible. This radiating star in the center, star of Bethlehem especially, is one of biblically inspired blocks. A shining star above Bethlehem, which revealed birth of Jesus, was a star of hope for emigrated puritans. People thanked for peace and safety throughout the day at sunset and wished another day to come to the large first star in the evening.
