5.BROKEN STAR

1930' from state of Pennsylvania 224cm x 213cm

Beautiful ornately pieced star patterns look like lights scattering from fireworks. This is uniquely styled and beautifully colored art piece. Amish used to worship the morning sun and the sunset, and drew a broken star thanking for peace and safety throughout the day at the sunset. Broken star was made to raise fund for church using a motif of Lone Star. Lone Star quilt became widespread in various states initially, and then multiple patterns of broken star became widespread. Its funds promoted church construction.
