"Beauty of Encounter, Joy of Encounter"

Each American antique quilt has its own story connecting to the past memories. People have incorporated clothing and memorabilia into quilts. Each pattern reflects its own character, memory, and prayer through people's daily lives. We discover new value and a new world by new encounter.

American quilt was started by the concept of reusing fabric scraps to avoid waste.

People have overcome hard life by wisdom and prayer during the pioneer, independence war and the civil war periods. Quilting has helped people to deal with crisis, tragedy and grief. The beauty was pursued as time went by, and quilts were made for comfort as well as to create a form of expressive decor.

Echo American antique quilts museum has lot more upcoming American antique quilts, and we will introduce you them periodically. All quilts were designed with its own meanings and feelings.

As far back as ancient era, cloth was used as art more than its' practical use in some countries. In Japan, people wrapped their feeling into clothes in the same way. Houmotsu gire in Sh?s?in (treasure house), Meibutsu gire which is fabric used for tea ceremony, Kesouhin (ornaments) for Yamaboko known as a moving museums in the Kyoto Gion Festival and so on. Kesa, a robe for Buddhist monk, is another example. Kesa has been known as "Gotoku ari, Jyutoku ari."
Those were encompassed with principle of Buddhism and wishes for happiness.
The Bible or Buddhism gives us wisdom. A quilt gives us beauty and value. We discover new value and a new world by new encounters. We hope you a rich and beautiful life by encountering spirituality.
